Groups in Durham

Hi All, I was just wondering if there are any groups in Durham for single parents? I have a 12 year old daughter who is my life and we do everything together but when she is with her dad (alternate weekends and some week nights) I am alone and bored and depressed. I realise as she is getting older she is wanting to spend less and less time with me so I'm making the most of having her with me now but I feel I need to get out and meet new people as I don't have a lot of friends, the ones I do have have their own life and families to worry about and when I try to talk to them or arrange a coffee it seems to get cancelled or they want to go out boozing which just isn't me. Thanks for any advice :)

I don’t know about any specific single parents groups, but I moved to Durham a few years ago knowing nobody and found getting involved in groups around my interests has helped me to meet people and make friends. I started cycling with Breeze Network Durham (they have a good Facebook group or you can search for rides on Letsride.co.uk) and have met heaps of women of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Breeze is aimed at getting more women cycling and the rides are usually on cycle paths or quiet roads. If you can ride a bike you’d love it! You can even bring your daughter if you want. And there are always good cake stops! It’s very sociable and fun.

If cycling isn’t your thing maybe try something else that is active or creative?

Hope you find something enjoyable that you can do for yourself Smile
