Hello,

My son will turn 3 on September 1st. He will become eligible to attend the local (Edinburgh) school nursery on the term after his 3rd birthday, which will be January 2019 as annoyingly the cut off for the September 2018 term is a birthday of August 31st or earlier. He missed it by 1.5 hours :( I am self employed and getting some help with childcare would be life changing.

I was speaking to a friend who is a nursery teacher in a different county who told me that where she is, if there are any spaces left on the nursery class just before term starts they will allocate them to children who just missed the cut off.

This has raised my hopes... I am waiting for a call back from the school but would love to hear if anyone has heard if this happens in Edinburgh or not. Thanks!

I work in a school nursery and haven’t heard of it in Edinburgh. But I have heard of it in Midlothian where family started the week after their birthday.

My twins turned 3 the day before the nursery resumed after half term.
I was advised that they may not start after half term as they may have to wait for the new term to start after Christmas, it was all dependent on spaces.
Fortunately they were able to start after the half term!!
This is West Lothian, so I’m not sure if Edinburgh would be the same, although I would hope so.

I should add that this is a council nursery, that is attached to the local school but the kids don’t all necessarily go to that school iyswim
