Just moved to Hitchin

Heya!

I've just recently moved to Hitchin with my girlfriend, and I don't know much about the area yet. Currently live quite close to the town centre/

Are there many country walks about? nature reserves?

What is the publife like?

Any points of interests that are in walking distance, or a short drive?

Any information would be great, Thanks :)

Check the North Herts council website for the country walks and for the cycling paths. Knebworth House, Wymondley Woods, Fairlands Valley Park are lovely places for a shiny day out.
Do you have some friends in the area? Local cafes have a good feel and the theatre too and lovely to have some fun time with friends.

You will need the full walking/cycling gear for these walks though. Traffic can be awful sometimes and you should wear appropritate clothing so you are visible on a country lane whether walking or cycling.

For walking, Oughtonhead is walkable from Hitchin town centre. If you have a car, Barton Hills is 15 mins drive away and REALLY NICE!

I’m sure this has been asked a lot on here but was just wondering what the best area in Hitchin is to live? We have a 2 year old daughter so getting her into a good primary and secondary is important to us as that is the reason why we are moving.

I understand SG49 is the best postcode for schools but I’m struggling to find a 3 bed in our budget 550k-600k. Bearton road area seem to be more our budget, Closest primary is wilshere Dacre, strathmore and Oughton (Forgive me if I’m wrong ) I understand isn’t as good as other schools in Hitchin. Also will my daughter be in catchment area for hitchin girls school if we decide on bearton road area?
