Moving from London to Worthing - any advice or help please

Apologies for the extra long email but really need some help with making this decision.

After 10 years of London living, we are very seriously considering moving to Worthing with our children (8 and 6). We have lots family and friendship support in London, but the idea of moving to a bigger space, a smaller mortgage and living by the sea is really appealing. We also have a small number of friends in Worthing. We have visited a few times (house sitting and holidays), and really like the feel of the area. We are also fortunate also that we both work in education so hope to eventually find work in Worthing or the surrounding areas.

So, looking for some advice

1. As a mixed-race family (White British / Jamaican), I would be interested in hearing from anyone about how tolerant they have found Worthing. Having walked around the area, it appears quite tolerant and friendly although obviously not as diverse as London.

1. Are there any particularly lovely areas to live – we want somewhere that is 10-15 minutes away from the sea front but also close to Worthing town centre. We have looked at Goring-by-Sea, Durrington (a bit too far out), Tarring and East Worthing. Schools are also important.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received – to help us make this big decision. Thank you so much

Have you decided yet? Although compared to London Worthing is quite white, that has its advantages, the sort of tensions that occur in much more multicultural communities don’t seem to happen here in my experience. Expect it to be more of a non issue than it is in London. There aren’t many if any bad schools. Just be aware East Worthing generally feed to the 2 single sex high schools, if that’s not going to suit your dc then it’s something to consider

What did you decide Lon2Wor? We’re in a similar position except we’ve moved out of London already to a place that is pretty conservative and not at all diverse. Looking to move as we’re miserable but don’t want to make the same mistake. We’re coming down to have a look round but would be good to hear from people already there with the same setup. Sorry to piggy back but this is exactly what we need to know!

Do you mind me asking where you moved to or want to move from that didn't work out for you? We are hoping to move from London to West Sussex, but don't know where yet. Worthing is a bit too far for the commute to London, we are thinking the Pulborough area but don't know it all. We would love to find a community that was less conservative and creative, as we are.

Joining in too if that's ok? Because we're looking for the same sort of thing.

Moving young family for DH work and need to be in Horsham vicinity but also looking for less conservative/more creative/diverse places with a sense of cohesive community and nice countryside on doorstep (moon & stick please)

Maybe if we group together and move somewhere smaller we can bring the less conservative/more creative/diverse elements to an area ourselves?!

Hopefully someone with local knowledge can offer some insight.
