Living ON the Gloucester Road??

Hello all,

Im a single mum (have an almost 7 year old daughter) about to make the daunting move from London to Bristol in search of a better life. I will be working in Southmead Hospital and know that I want to live in Bishopston/Montpelier area. Ive just been offered a flat that is ON the gloucester road. I love that road but the front door literally opens to the Gloucester road.

Id love any opinions if Im mad or not? Is it going to be very noisy an busy. It is near the library and i know there are some nice little coffee shops in that exact area. Any advice? Also any opinions on best primary schools in that area MUCH appreciated...so far i've narrowed my search down to The Dolphin school, Bishops Road and Brunel Fields..

Thank you!!

My nephews go to bishop Road school as do a couple of my friends kids and it's highly recommended. I've also heard good things about the dolphin school. I'm afraid I don't know much about brunel fields.

I love Gloucester Road but I don't know if I would want to live right on the road. You said the flat is near the library so it might not be too loud.

Is it a flat above a shop? Or in a development of flats? The purpose built flats tend to be on slightly quieter (in terms of pedestrians) bits of road.

I have children at Bishop Road and am happy with it, but if you want to know lots about what your daughter does at school, or be able to email teachers it is not the school for you. It's more of a "take us as you find us" kind of place.

Dolphin is a lot more caring and sharing I think - weekly email home from class teacher, that kind of thing.

Brunel Fields I have heard some very +ve things about, but also know of several families who have moved their children out. So obviously some like it more than others.
