Dissertation on Coffee Shops as a Space of Wellbeing for Mothers with Young Children

Hi,

My name’s Charlotte I am a third year geography student at Durham University and I am completing a dissertation on Coffee Shops as sites of wellbeing for mothers with young children.

I am hoping to conduct interviews with mums who regularly use coffee shops with their children.

The interview will take place in the next 2 weeks in a coffee shop of your choosing in Durham and I will pay for beverages and snacks up to the value of 5 pounds.

OK, so I'm old and cynical, but you can't get into most of the coffee shops in Durham for the students hogging the free WiFi!

Someone at the geography department has clearly told the students to post here; you're not the first request!

Contact The Nest in low fell and miss Tina's in Washington; both coffee shops aimed at parents.

Also, not specifically aimed at parents but does lots of child stuff in the week, contact Thought Foundation in birtley. They're big on wellbeing for all people, but have arts events specifically designed for people to be able to do whilst their children play!etc.

Agree with PickAChew: coffee shops in durham are indeed full of students hogging the wifi...v annoying when they're sitting there watching gossip girl on their laptops with a half drunk bottle of water and you're trying to find a seat with your small baby who needs a feed, coffee and sandwich...not that I am bitter oh no...

They always have macbooks, too. They cost as much as my entire student grant, back in the day!

I've never managed to get into flat white!

I'm miles away so not much use but our fav places all had accessible toilets with a buggy and were pro breast feeding. Maybe see local baby clinic for a list of places that welcome new mums and try there? Or school playgroup?
