Raising kids in Hackney

WE have 2 DC (very young). Primaries around us are good, but secondaries are not. We are lucky to live in a small but nice house. But we are currently weighing up whether to move out of the area that we love, to get a bigger place - better secondary schools etc.

Has anyone else been in this position. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experince!

We left! Tbh was more about the house than schools for us, albeit when deciding where to move to we then focused heavily on secondary schools. Had we been able to afford the right house in Hackney we'd have stayed put. Plenty seem to do absolutely fine, but I think you're right in saying schools are a bit trickier at secondary than primary and it maybe depends what your specific options are. No hurry to decide though if the kids are still very young.

Hi, I came here looking for info on Hackney secondary schools to complete my list to send, and I wondered what you decided from when you wrote this, to now. I've been worrying about crime and infrastructure (when Conservatives got in power Hackney had 9% reduction in budget when their boroughs had a 0-3% reduction and after 10 years of austerity we see the changes in our streets). Having said this, when considering to move, I went to the police website and looked up stats by area, and the difference in violent street crimes between our area and Highgate for example, was insignificant. There were more break ins there and marginally more street here. Then I googled, and the moped gangs were a problem further west in North London. I hope we, Hackney residents, can contribute to making a difference in our borough for everyone to be safe and well, the only difference I see is that here we see the problems and in some postcard places (outside London, with police stations closed) they take you by surprise.
If anyone reads this and have children in secondaries in N16, N4, E9, E2, could pls share? Thank you!

Hi @florencia. We think we've decided to move. As much as I love hackney, and it's multitude of fantastic points, we've decided that we don't particularly want to have drug dealers driving down our roads at high speed when our children are so little. We don't want to have to push past users on the way to the shops, or see them shooting up in the local park.

I understand other areas of london also have problems, which have been exacerbated by Tory cuts. But we just feel that we don't want our children to be exposed to these issues on a daily basis.

I will be sad to leave though.
