Does anyone else miss London desperately?

We moved here six months ago for work. Bristol is beautiful, but I miss the buzz of London, and the incredible art galleries. I keep meeting people here who have moved from London and claim that it's the best thing they've ever done. Surely I can't be the only one pining for the capital like this?

Yes. Moved away nearly twenty five years ago and have lived in some wonderful places, but I still miss London. I try to go there as often as possible but it's not easy from Somerset.

I think a lot of people tell themselves moving is the best thing, almost like trying to convince themselves. We moved back from overseas and I'm under no illusions that I don't want to live here. London or Santiago, Chile, yes. Not Somerset. But here we are, so I'm making the most of it.

Pop back for the weekend. Go back more frequently. It's easy to go there and back in a day if there are exhibitions you want to see, go!

Yes I do and I'm pretty sure we're completely priced out now so I better get used to it

I moved to Bristol 14 years ago and I really missed London for the first year or so. I missed the museums , galleries and enormous choices of places to eat lunch including sushi!! That makes me sound pathetic but I did miss it Smile

I love Bristol now but my priorities are now good housing, an easy commute and I don't have time for sushi ;) So give it a while, but make up your own mind. You don't have to hate London to move to Bristol. I still love my work trips to London and I'd much rather have a weekend there than somewhere rural.

I don't think you can really compare them. London is vast. And it can take as long to get from one side to the other as it can to get from Bristol to Paddington. All the things you miss you can still get by visiting!

Where in Bristol do you live?

We're Cotham / Redland - a really lovely area. When we moved I thought that we would be able to just 'pop back for the weekend', but actually that's really hard when you have small children and full time jobs; its also really not the same as being to see an exhibition in your lunch hour or on your way home from work. I'm not sure that its true that you can get the things that you miss by visiting - it's the casualness of being being able to pop into the National for tens minutes or so that i'm pining for.

Yeah - I guess I'm up there for work quite a bit so try to squeeze things in around that.
