Do you have extra helps when Dh/Dw travels for work?

Hi,

I wondered if I could ask for some advice from other Mums or Dads whose partners travel for work.

My dh hasn't travelled for work for several years because my ds and I had health problems and no family locally to help. We really found it too hard to manage when dh was away.

However, I am getting better, ds is getting better and dh would like to start travelling again.

I just wondered - do others just manage when their partners are away or do they have paid help like cleaner or au pair or a child minder, or are there other things kinds of help that I could get in to make it all a bit easier?

I have friends locally but they are all up to their ears in kids too, usually with no family nearby and often with health problems affecting both Mum and kids to its hard to ask them for help.

I would really appreciated any ideas.

Thanks!

It is really all depends on your work if you do. I work part-time and my work is very flexible, I can also work form home if needed. On the days when my husband is away, I do all children ( I have 2 ) drop offs- school and nursery - and pick ups myself. I do have a cleaner but no other help and no relatives nearby.
I also try to get some time to myself away from the kids when my husband is back home, to keep me sane) I find that I manage just fine without him and kids are actually ready for bed on time when my husband is away, it all turns to slight chaos when he he is back though.
