Hello,

I am mum to 3.5 year old boy and 14 months old little girl. My son has special needs (suspected autistic spectrum) and is going to start reception next September 18. We live in Whetstone and will be moving to Barnet (EN5) in March 18. Can anyone recommend good mainstream schools who can accommodate child with special needs and can provide good support? He hopefully will have EHCP plan in place by the time he will start the reception.
I am also looking to meet other mums who have SEN children in this area (Whetstone/Barnet).

Hello! Just seen your post. I have a 3.5-year-old daughter with special needs - we're in EN5 and are just starting to look at schools. PM me if you'd like to chat. xx

Try Livingstone school on Baring Rd. I have heard it has a great specialist unit.

I second Livingstone. My kids went there and were very happy. The Kingfisher unit there is amazing for children with ASD and the staff are fantastic x

I third Livingstone. Great school for kids with ASD. Have a separate unit but also integrate the kids into the classrooms with their year groups.

Is there much flow between the autism unit and the rest of the school? My DD has a learning disability and we're also in the early stages of an autism assessment. I'd love her to go to a mainstream school but with the option of spending some time with SEN specialists.

Sorry - to clarify, flow between the MS school and ASD unit in terms of teaching.

Something.. Yes, some of the more able SN children spend more of their time in the class with all the other children.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 12/10/2017 07:37

That does sound good - thanks.

Hey.
I’ve just seen this thread. I’m really interested in Livingstone too. Living in Enfield borough though but all schools with units are full here. Son has autism (undiagnosed) but receives full support 32.5 hours with ehcp. Hope to visit soon. They say they are full but hoping will make an exception.

We are desperate and don’t want to commit to special school yet as he’s not 5 yet.
