Relocating to Exeter

We are relocating to Exeter. We have been accepted a place for our daughter at the new primary school in Westclyst. We are looking at areas to rent a property. Any recommendations on areas to look at renting which are not too far to commute to the school with some local amenities. Many thanks. Charlotte

Have lived here for 40 odd years and taught here for 22, so hoping I may be able to help.

The first thing you need to think about is if you want a village location or to be in part of Exeter - albeit on the outskirts.

The obvious Exeter edge location for Westclyst Primary, apart from Westclyst itself, would be Pinhoe (or Monkerton, its smaller, newer neighbour). This area has expanded massively over recent years, is walkable to Westclyst and has key amenities as well as public transport, a Sainsbury's nearby and a train station. Pinhoe Primary is a feeder for nearby Clyst Vale Community College, as is Westclyst. If you wanted a more villagey feel, look for houses in Broadclyst or, if you are happy to drive DD to school, places like Rockbeare, Clyst St Mary. They are villages within easy driving of your DD's school. Cranbrook is a new town also within easy driving distance to Westclyst. It's quite 'cramped' and has less character than more established areas, but has great amenities for families and may well be cheaper.

Good luck!
