Colchester Mile End

Hello,
I am looking into moving to Colchester in the new year but at the moment just trying to get to know what areas are good to live in. I feel that Stanway & Highwoods look nice & have received positive feedback. I just wondered if anyone lives in the Mile End area & has any feedback of living there. The houses seem abit cheaper, is that because the area isn't so pleasant? I have children so want to get this move right!
Many thanks in advance 😊🏡

Hi Catskel. I've just moved to the Mile End area and am finding it really nice! It's clean, it's green and don't think the area is at all unpleasant. More of a family area where I live- near the A134. I suppose the only drawback (not for me) would be that there's a lot of cars buzzing past on this side of town. Smile

Hi Ldn2colchester,
Thank you for your reply. I am glad to hear it is a nice area to live so definitely a place to keep in mind when looking at houses, thanks. You said it's buzzing with traffic, does that therefore mean it's noisy or just busy? I live in a quite area now you see, so it being busy I can get use to but sitting in my new garden just hearing constant traffic noises all the time not so great!
Glad you have settled in well 😊

You're very welcome! It's a lovely area to live in. It's not noisy like it would be around a high street, just busy with cars driving by. Of course that would depend where you find a house/apartment. I'm pretty much right next to a busy road, therefore the 'noise,' but I couldn't possibly live around a high street area with noisy fellas back from pubs! Blush

Hi there! I live in Braiswick, which is part of the Mile End ward. It is lovely, as the other messages have said. It is one of the nicer parts of town, probably second to Lexden which is great but super expensive. There is a new school down my road, a big meadows (Cymbeline), Highwoods Country Park, Castle Park in town and good amenities (i.e. all the supermarkets are here - Asda, Aldi, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsburys). More investment is coming into North Colchester and soon we will have our own cinema, more restraurants and out of town retail. There are a lot of cars and busy roads, but it is a big town. Very good links to London.

I am also going through the adoption process - has anyone on here found good stuff for kids locally? That is something I can't comment on yet!! Thanks and welcome to the area :)
