Hi everyone. We are moving to Wales with my husband's job and we are thinking of Tredegar s we've seen a lovely house there and his work is nearby. Does anyone know what's it like?Any suggestions on primary schools (my child will be doing an in class transfer in year 2).Thanks for your help!! :-)

I don't know Tredegar well but I reccommend Caldicot Smile

Hi, sorry to jump in on your post but this could have been written by me!!! We're looking at moving to Wales from East Midlands due to my husband's job and also spotted a lovely house in tredegar!! Have you decided whether it's for you? I'd love to know people's opinions too. We're heading down this weekend so if you haven't already looked round, I can get some info for you!! X

My son will also be doing a transfer during year 2 too. Spooky x

I live two miles from Tredegar. The area in general is still recovering from having major industries shut down - pits and steel works, there is high unemployment in the immediate area but neighbouring counties like Monmouthshire are affluent - Abergavenny is about 17 miles away.

Cardiff and Swansea are easily accessible by road in around an hour.

Check Estyn for school reports (Ofsted equivalent). There are five primary schools in Tredegar.

Thank you @thinkofanumber , that's the general feel that I got when I looked there.

@natstar83 that's such a coincidence, our children could be in the same class! What road are you moving too?x

We're not quite at that stage yet, our first visit this weekend and looking around a few houses as well as looking at Newport, Cardiff and Crickhowell. Lots to fit into a weekend with a promised trip to the seaside too. Have you decided that the town is for you? X

We are still undecided if it's the right town but we've seen a lovely house...so next week we are also looking again at the area to get a better idea. However, we have also been told Crickhowell is lovely as is Caerleon (in Newport) and have seen a few nice houses there too.
Good luck for your search, let me know what you think! It's so hard moving to a new area!
Good luck this weekend! :-)
