Where to rent in Cambridge?

Hi there!

We're relocating and in the process of trying to find a rental in Cambridge.

We want to live in centre of town as I don't drive and like to walk places (plus have a mini-daxie to walk so want to be near a green!)

We've found a place on Earl Street and also Portugal Place. Would anyone recommend these streets to live on? I do know them both and have stayed on the former street in a holiday let.

I'm slightly limited by having a dog. Budget up to £2500 a month but preferably under £2000. Does anyone have any recommendations of good areas?

My youngest will be commuting to Kings Ely school (Year 8) and my eldest whom we home-ed at the moment will be going to Hills Road (fingers crossed!)

Thanks SOOOOOO much for any advice.

I lived near Earl Street, and loved it. But then again, I had parking. I would have loved it much less if I'd had to search for on street residents parking every day. But if that's not an issue, then fine. It's not that bad finding parking for visitors/guests.

But the area was lovely. Easy walk into town and everywhere I wanted. Little Waitrose nearby that was friendly and helpful. Lots of other shops in easy walking distance and various cafes and pubs and so on. Anywhere in the Kite area is nice, I think. (I don't know other areas all that well)

Near Midsummer common, which is great for dogs. Not bad to cycle to Hills Road, and easy cycle to station.

Portugal place just reminds me of being a student, but I'm sure is nice too. And near Jesus Green for dogs. I don't know how easy it is to find landlords who are happy with pets, as that was never an issue for me. Anywhere central is probably going to be expensive, but also very nice and very convenient.

Thanks Citycentre. We put an offer in on Portugal Place. It has parking and is so cute - small, but cute! Earl St is our second option but about £750 more a month. I'm sure we could negotiate but not down £750...
Hope we get PP!

There's not much in it really.
How will your DC get to Ely - train??
Do you have a partner and will one or both of you be commuting to work - if so where?
Assuming you need to get to the station, Earl Street would be slightly better. It's very central. On the other hand, Portugal Place is right by Jesus Green and the river.

Thanks NameChange, yes, by train to Ely. No commuting for us.
