y9 school entry - starting perse upper in september. new to cambourne and the whole area. would very much value advice on the realistic options that we should be considering for school travel. the school minibus from maddingley p&r is oversubscribed we are told.

Will you be working in Cambridge? If not, perhaps drive in so far and let them cycle the rest? Is there not a bus that comes from Cambourne? Or maybe drive to somewhere to pick up the guided bus - such as Oakington/Histon.

Maybe see whether the school would email the current year 8 parents to see if anyone wants to lift share (may work going in but not home because of the many and varied activities).

Thank you, hereiam. Yes, working in Cambridge but in opposition direction. Trying to avoid a bycicle. Nice idea in general but I am not prepared yet to send my kid on the same road as the cars. May be in a few years, but that's still to come.

We are trying to see where and how to pick up a city bus so it's most convenient. Your idea of asking the school about other parents is a great one, it didn't occur to us before. Thank you again!

You should speak to the school. I know someone who's dd is currently in year 8 at the perse who lives south of cambourne and drives in every day.

My friends children cycle from Barton to The Perse. I think you don't realise that in the Cambridge area it's very normal for teenagers to cycle to school. There's a cycle path all the way from Barton so he wouldn't be on the road with cars. To be honest, it's a bit odd to say you're not prepared to let a 13 year old cycle on the road. Just make sure he wears his helmet
