So we are moving upto Colchester in the summer hols (boys are 5 and 7yrs). Can anyone suggest some nice parks/beaches/farms/museums close by that I can take them to..or anything else?
Thank you.

Plenty of choices. Castle Park has a large play park and grounds, mersea island has some lovely beaches and country park. There is also leisure world for swimming/flukes, jump street and Colchester Zoo. Have fun 😀

Hello again! Hope the school hunt is going well. We go to:

Brightlingsea open air pool (fantastic large lido, can be queues, llaypark and "beach" - fenced off area of sea - nearby)
Frinton beach (fantastic sand)
Walton (nice beach, and pier one end, fossil hunting at the Naze end)
Highwoods (walk, lake, adventure playground)
Castle park
The zoo - we have cards otherwise it's expensive but with cards you can go again and again, and there are four playgrounds and a soft play as well as the animals
Wivenhoe - playpark, fish and chips, look at boats
Dedham - park, river trips, paddling in river, craft centre (that's more for me!)
Jungle Adventure - soft play

I second all of the above, and don't forget Maldon prom which has a fantastic splash park, Cudmore Grove in Mersea, and also Hollow Tree farm just outside of Hadleigh, which is great for that age.
We like to go to Great Notley Country Park in Braintree which has about 5 different play areas, one after the other, and sky ropes!

Great - sounds like there's a lot to do to wear them out! Thank you.
