commuting to Brighton

Hi,
I have a new job in central Brighton and we are relocating for it. Can't afford Brighton, but have been looking at Worthing which we like and were quite set on... until my partner got offered a job in Eastbourne.

He does the school drop offs (DS in year 1 and DD not yet of school age) so we want to live where he is working. My main concern, selfishly, is the commute - what do you reckon, does anyone have experience of commuting on the train to Brighton from either Worthing or Eastbourne?

Eastbourne is supposed to be 40 mins and Worthing 30 mins. But of course what the websites can't tell you if whether this is a reliable, pleasant commute or more of a gruelling endurance test?!
Thanks!

The train between Brighton and worthing used to be really reliable but in the opposite direction from what you are looking at - it is generally tough a old train so really loud at parts. Not sure how busy it was going into Brighton for peak but I don't think it will be anything like the London trains in terms of traffic.
