Help!! Birthday party for 12 year old twin girls...

Hi all,

I'm new here and don't have a clue if I'm posting in the right bit but praying that someone might have some inspiration...

I have twin girls who are 12 in November and are desperate for a birthday party this year. The only problem is everything that's being advertised in Edinburgh/Lothian's is to "babyish" or "just rubbish" for them apparently!!

Does anyone have any suggestions of what we could do (that I don't need to remortgage my home to pay for the event).

I have suggested everything from a tubing party, go karting, disco, pamper party, to a party bus and I just get that "don't be ridiculous mum" kind of look!!!

I welcome any suggestions that anyone may have.

Thanks x

Foxlake at Dunbar? Ropes course and a couple of goes on the rubber ring thing afterwards. My DC really enjoyed that.

To be honest though, my DC have started to just want friends over and watch a film/sleepover now they are older

Just noticed November birthday. My DC this year have been taken shopping, trampolining at the new place out near Fort Kinnaid. You could let them go for afternoon tea somewhere?

My daughter's friend had a recording studio party which was a big hit www.royalmilerecordingexperiences.com/recording-studio-parties/kids-parties/. Another idea might be a trip to Edinburgh Dungeons ( the do group deal prices) nad then ice cream sundaes or hot chocolate at Vittorias on the Bridge afterwards.

Escape room? There are a couple of places around the city that offer this. Not sure what the minimum age is thought and you'd probably have to check that all the children were comfortable with the concept first.

Cristiane · 25/06/2017 18:50

There are now Minecraft parties and similar

Noofly · 25/06/2017 19:12

I'll second the suggestion of an Escape Room. We just did one for our DD's 12th birthday and they had a great time. An adult needed to be in the room with them and we were given clues so it was challenging for them but not frustrating.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 25/06/2017 19:46

Second Foxlake (though not sure if it will be shut by November) and Edinburgh Dungeons. Or a treasure trail https://www.treasuretrails.co.uk/what-to-do/lothian/edinburgh - if you've a big group you could have two teams competing? They are very hard to impress at that age, I feel your pain!

Rubberyshoe · 25/06/2017 20:59

Just realised this has been posted twice and your children have already turned down some of these suggestions. Money and shopping or private screening at the Dominion maybe.

Mumoftwindivas · 26/06/2017 08:37

Thanks all for your suggestions!!! It's frustrating trying to find something that they both want to do as they have very different personalities and likes. One of them love a suggestion and the other hates it and as much as I'd love to give them one, I can't afford two separate parties.

@Rubberyshoe... Where is the trampolining place at Fort Kinnard??

Thank you again all x

Sorry, got location wrong - it's Ryze in Dalkeith

What about climbing at Ratho? I would have suggested the Ariel Assault course, we have had a couple of birthday "parties" there, but I see it is currently closed. It may be open by November, not for the fainthearted but mine loved it.

Noofly · 26/06/2017 18:41

Yes, Ratho is a good suggestion! The clip and climb is popular for parties at that age- DD was at one a few months ago.

violetx · 26/06/2017 22:31

There's a trampoline place opening at Fountain Park soon.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 27/06/2017 12:10

Clip and climb has had rave reviews from DS, he also did an escape room recently and said it was amazing.

Buckeyedjim · 27/06/2017 12:31

There is a roller rink at ocean terminal now.

I posted on the other thread but didn't see this one.
How about a photo shoot party. Serendipity in Musselburgh do fab ones, girls have hair up/light make up or a make up lesson, then they all have a mini shoot.
