GP recommendations in & around Bruntsfield

We are new to Edinburgh & need to register with a GP. Any opinions or feedback (good/bad/avoid etc) on the following?

0.3 miles from our house: Bruntsfield Medical Practice (long waiting list - is it worth it?) & Polwarth Surgery (found some negative reviews online about a Dr Miller but not sure if he's still there)

0.5 mikes from our house: Gilmore Medical Practice & Leven Medical Practice (both at Tollcross Health Centre so not sure what the difference is between them), also Morningside Medical Practice (not sure if we're still in catchment)

0.6 miles from our house (not sure if we'd still be in catchment): Meadows Medical Practice, Springwell Medical Practice & Marchmont Medical Practice

I liked dr millar at polwarth but although registered with him I rarely saw him. Saw a few male for contraceptive stuff and randoms for emergencies. I don't have any serious long term things though.

AFAIK Gilmore is/offers private and leven is NHS, could be wrong though.

i am registered to leven. you can make appointments 2 weeks in advance, anything sooner is drop in. if you get there at 8am you are seen within the hour. ive had a positive experience each time, although im not a huge fan of drop in.

avoid meadows medical practice, its horrific and the staff are very unprofessional.

Dr Miller has retired from the Polwarth practice afaia it is is locums picking up the work, so very doubtful you would see the same person twice.

I would also avoid the Meadows.

Out of your locals Bruntsfield then Tollcross would be my choice.

I used to be at Gilmore practice and was really happy with it. It's not private - both gilmore and leven terrace used to be separate in separate premises and then the new building was built but rather than join together they are just 2 separate practices in the same building.

Bruntsfield is good too as is Morningside - no idea about the others but I'd have thought Springwell would be further away.

I was at Gilmore for years as was my mother. They were always good.

Frankly you might have a problem registering with a GP. Lots of them are operating restricted lists, for example Bruntsfield was last time I looked. Best to ring round and take what you can

Thanks everyone for your advice. We have since arrived in Edinburgh and ended up with Bruntsfield Medical Practice. It appears the info on their website is out of date - they are currently not actually running a waiting list, so we were able to just walk in and register.
