Hi...Can any Mummy's with young reception age children advise me on good primary schools in the Ripley/Send/Woking areas...We are returning to the UK after living abroad and I am getting very panicked as my little girl turns 4 in August and I am getting increasing concerned that I wont get her into a good school as we will be renting and wont have a home until we arrive back mid to end of June...Any advice on schools, process etc would be warmly welcomed From a very frantic, stressed Mummy!!

Hi Nikki

Your best plan is to speak to the Surrey County Council school admissions team at Woking who can advise you on the process of applying for school places.

Check out Surrey's website www.surreycc.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/schools/school-admissions/primary-junior-and-infant-applications for advice on the process and what documentation you will need as proof of residence.

For September reception places were offered on 18 April 2017 so you may not get your preferred school but you should apply now so your child's name can be added to any waiting list. If SCC can't offer you your preferred school, they will offer an alternative school place and your child's name can be added to any potential waiting lists. They will also advise you on what schools still currently have availability in the area in which you are intending to move to if you are unhappy with what you have been offered.

For waiting lists, your address won't be taken into account until you actually move in but it doesn't stop you from applying, you'll just move further up waiting lists once you provide evidence of your move.

Good luck

Hello Nikki

I'm not sure if you're aware but your daughter isn't legally required to start Reception until the term after she's 5 years old. As an August born you have the choice to start her in September 2017 or defer to start in January or April 2018 (you would still have to apply as normal for the year and discuss with the Head). Or you apply for entry for September 2018.

List of Woking State Schools

Local State schools can fill up quite quickly so it may worth looking into Independent. Coworth Flexlands is about 15 minute drive from Woking and we offer wrap around care from 7:30am-6pm. We have availability in Reception 2017-2018 class. Our Registrar, Priya Patel would be delighted to show you around. We also have a Nursery within the school, so if you were looking to defer, your daughter could start in our Nursery to get familiar with the school setting before moving up into Reception.

Best of luck with the move!

.... but although technically she can't be forced to start school in September, the vast majority of her peers will do so I'd see what options you have once you've got an address. There are definitely some less popular primary schools in Woking so feel free to post once you know what you are being offered and I'm sure someone will give you a view on it.

Good luck with the move!
