Pregnant in Didcot

Hello ladies!

I'm pregnant with my second baby (5.5 weeks), having had the first one at the JR in Oxford. My first one was a planned C-section (DD was breech and so doc picked a date for me) due to a bicornuate uterus.

I have since moved to Didcot and was wondering if you get sent to a hospital closer to Didcot for delivery? 30 minute drive to the JR seems a bit much!

Hi,

I live in Oxford and am expecting my first. There are midwife-led birth units in wallingford and wantage but I think the JR is the closest hospital with full maternity sevices to Didcot. Guess the next closest would be Reading maybe? As long as you don't need to get there quickly in rush hour (!) Didcot to JR wouldn't be too bad.

JR is the nearest hospital. Worth bearing the distance in mind if you want to go for birth at the Wallingford midwife led unit as if any problems will need to be transferred to the JR. However I believe you can only go to Wallingford if low risk pregnancy and I'm not sure if your previous complications will have a bearing on how they will assess risk this time. You'll need to discuss with the midwife.

Also, you'll be at the JR for scans. It's 30 min drive without traffic and then can take ages to find a parking space once you are there.

Wallingford was amazing. I had DS at the JR (induction and EMCS) but once home struggled to BF. On day 5 I was admitted to Wallingford and they sorted us out. Each time I needed to feed someone came and stayed with me whilst feeding was established. V v v v supportive (unlike JR). I was in for 24 hours and was so very grateful. If there's a next time I'm going to ask to be transferred directly there as soon as possible, so maybe see if that's an option for you.
