moving to chesham

Hi. We're a family of 4 thinking of moving to work at Chesham. Need good advises to find best local to live with affordable house rents (preferably with public transports to Chesham) and very good secondary and primary schools and music schools. Thanks everyone

Chesham itself is fine. A mix of Victorian terraces, 1930s detached and semis and council estates. It is cheaper than Amersham. Don't go for the villages if you want public transport. Schools are decent. If your DCs would pass the 11+ they have a choice of Chesham Grammar (mixed), Dr Challonners Grammar (boys) or Dr Challoners High (girls). The local upper school had a lot of ££ spent on it. There are in school music lessons plus Saturday lessons at Amersham and Wycombe college. There's a good leisure centre an outdoor pool and a gorgeous town centre park.

I can second what's already been said. The outdoor pool is great too.

Best to check as many areas as you have time for to get a feel for the pockets as one stretch of road can have a different feel to it from another round the corner.

And I'll third it.
With the exception of a reference to an Upper School - if it's not a Grammar, it's a Secondary Modern, with all that implies.
If you are planning on playing 11 plus roulette with your DCs lives far better you head to Herts. Berkhamstead has a bus link with Chesham.

Berkhamsted is a different price bracket to Chesham. However, I do know families from Chesham with DCs in Berkhamsted or Chorleywood comprehensives. And the upper isn't bad but, like all uppers in a county where 30% go to Grammer schools, it is a secondary modern. There's movement after GCSE though, when the Grammars weed out anyone who does not 'qualify' for 6th form.

If you're going to be working in the town, you'll get best value for money housewise in Chesham itself. Chesham has some of the best schools in the country, but check catchment of houses you like as primary places can get a bit fierce! Music wise, the schools offer most instruments providing subsidized lessons during school time. You can also.join orchestras and groups on a Saturday at Amersham Music Centre just up the road. Chesham is also a commuter town for lots of professional musicians, many of whom offer high quality private lessons. Hope that helps!
