after school collections from Bromley Road Primary School

Dear Beckenham mums,
I need some tips for after school collections from Bromley Road Primary School, Beckenham.

My son was offered a place at Bromley Road Primary School recently and he will be starting reception in September 2017. Currently he is in the Ladybird nursery (right next to school).

As I am trying to arrange after school childcare, I come across some difficulties.

Apparently, the only after school club that Bromley Road Primary School is working with is St Georges after-school club that has no vacancies and a long waiting list. it turns out that St Georges after-school club is picking up children from Bromley Rd and Worsley Bridge Schools and they have capacity for only approx 30 children that are already fully filled by the children who are in school now.
I tried to contact local childminders (from the Bromley.gov.uk register) it offered me 11 childminders in 1 miles area from the school. Tried to contact all of them, but some responded that they don't do pick-ups from Bromley Rd, some said they are on maternity or have have no vacancies (some didn't respond at all). The only childminder who was initially agreeable to offer a place with her, later end up withdrawing her offer as she was approached by some other parent yesterday offering her to start a full time childcare now (and not waiting till Sept 2017) and that parent is ready to pay more.

I wonder what the other mums in Beckenham area are doing in this regard? Surely there must be some solution to this!
I am single mum who works full time in central London. I can not really afford to leave the job or work part time as I have to pay my bills and my rent. I have no family near by, so I have to find some reasonable solution, but I really wonder what can be other options. Any suggestions? Tips?

Maybe speak to the school office or try a request on the bromley road Facebook group. I see one mum in a different year who picks up a few kids after school don't know her details as not my year.
Also speak to ladybird- they may know someone or have a member of staff who could do something. I know Rita used to pick a child up from bromley road and spend a little bit of time with them until a piano lesson or something but she is not a childminder.
Managing childcare around school is harder than when they are small and in nursery - I would start researching school holiday clubs etc now as they can get busy too.
It will be fine just takes a while to get used to.

Welcome to bromley road it's s lovely friendly school. I'll ask around a bit and maybe dm if I find anything out that could help.

No advice I am afraid but watching with interest as I'm likely to be in the same position next year.

Thanks Chocolatecheesecakes! I spoke to School office and they advised to talk with Little Diamonds Out of School Club (www.littlediamonds.co.uk/) at Sydenham as apparently they are picking up kids from Bromley Road School too and even drop kids off at home later on. Spoke with them and they said they might assist. Will see.
I will talk to Rita & Paulina too (or maybe I have tell Priya that there are some busines opportunities.) Will see. :)))
I know that Michelle (previously at Ladybird) now has moved to St George pre-school & after-school club. My son was very happy to see her when we went there. But St Georges have no vacancies & has long waiting list. :(

My daughter is starting Bromley Road in September too and I am in the same position as you. I have tried everywhere but no luck at all, I really didn't expect it to be this difficult.

If you do find a childminder who is prepared to collect if there is more than one child then please contact me as I'd be happy to share a childminder.

I'm sure it will all work out somehow before September!

Beckenhamcc -
I have contacted several companies who provide breakfast clubs and after school clubs in Beckenham.
Little Diamonds OSC (from Sydenham) confirmed that they are picking children up from Bromley Road Primary Schoool and even deliver them back to Beckenham after 6pm.
MyTime Active also got back to me confirming that they will open a new branch at Beckenham Halls (across the road to Bromley Road Primary School) and will provide Breackfast Clubs & After School Clubs there. If that's of interest, check mytimeactive.co.uk/childcare and contact Wendy Smith -

Thank you so much!

I have spoken to MyTime Active and they sound very promising so hopefully that will work out.

Beckenhamcc · 01/07/2017 08:55

@mumbr3 did you receive an email from the school on Friday?

mumBR3 · 03/07/2017 11:05

@Beckenhamcc
Yes. I am gutted.
But I don't want to explore it more. I posted something about it on Beckenham & Penge Mums Facebook group, but it seems its only me who things there is something wrong with it. If you are working full time (even if you are a working single parent) then there is something wrong with you and not the system. Then you will be told that 'school is not childcare', that you are not getting your priorities right, that you should give up your work, etc. But if you dear to disagree, then you will be called rude.
I'm clearly not getting it, but it seems I'm clearly a minority here.

Hi everyone,
I can pick any children up from Bromley Road Primary School.

I am a qualified childminder starting in September and a retired graphic designer. I am also running The Beckenham Harris Academy Primary choir from September and have pitched to do a similar choir at Bromley Road school later on in the year. I also run The Beckenham Community Ladies Choir on Monday evenings.

I charge £25 a day and the hours are from 3:15pm - 6:15pm.

My daughter Faith is leaving Lady Birds nursery next week and is going to be attending the Valley Pre-School. Her pick up time is 3:45pm. I have a 7 seater vehicle for pickups and love to help the children with homework, reading, art etc. Providing healthy, tasty meals.

I absolutely love children and I specialise in music and healthy eating. I am also going to be running healthy mum workshops during the day at The Glades Shopping centre in Bromley.

Please get in touch, I live in the gated flats opposite Christ Church in Bromley. I live with my husband Darren and two children, Faith (3 years old) and Solomon (3 months old).

Best Wishes

Serlina
