Can we live in Suffolk and commute to Cambridge?

Dh works in Cambridge, I lived there previously but didn't feel at home I. The town or like the flat, agricultural countryside. I also found it hard to make friends there which is not usually an issue for me. I have heard great things about Suffolk and it looks so beautiful with gorgeous countryside. Can anyone please tell me where would be a good place to bring up a young family with good schools and pretty countryside which is commutable to Cambridge in under an hour and to London to see Grandparents?

Sorry I didn't feel at home in Cambridge or like the countryside.

We live in A village just outside Woodbridge and my Dh commutes to Cambridge. takes on average 55 mins to the airport junction and then well depends on the traffic and the route .There are least two other people in the village who also commute to Cambridge and there are loads from Bury St Edmunds side .

Having reread your post I would definately look at Bury , lovely town , good schools and should be under and hour to Cambridge

Thanks! Do you think Bury has a bit more local life than Cambridge? I found Cambridge was so flminsted by the university and the outlying residential areas were a but soulless. Is that commuting by car in under an hour from Bury?

We live in West Suffolk and DH commutes to Hertfordshire everyday so Cambridge is very doable!

Commute from Bury can be done in an hour - 40ish mins on train or 45-60 mins in car depending on what time you leave.

Do it! We moved here 21yrs ago nearly from Huntingdon. Easy to do Cambs (if A14 is playing nice) I moved (back) because we could get more house for money , I missed trees in cambs 'agridesert' & found developing friendships hard because people kept job relocating after 2/3 yrs. More settled communities here. Though it may take about 30 yrs before someone actually says 'welcome'

I live in Stowmarket and commute to Cambridge every day. It is definitely do-able but only if the A14 is playing nice! lol
