Rhodes Avenue Primary School - old screen in grounds

Sorry if this has come up before but I've only recently noticed the 'screen' (or what looks like a gateway/part of wall to me) that is fenced off in the Rhodes Primary playground. It has Doric columns. I asked someone who works at the school about it but she had no info other than that there was an old house on the site many years ago. I'm curious and wonder if anyone knows the history of it?

Rumour has it that it was a house belonging to Cecil Rhodes, but try the library for local info.

If true that would be quite interesting as I've heard my mother was distantly related to Cecil Rhodes. I've never checked it out though. And there's no house there now to lay claim to anyway!!
