Autistic Girls in Lambeth

Hello
Any local families with autistic girls in their midst? My daughter was diagnosed just before Christmas aged 9. Been having a nightmare with school. Wondering if anyone has good schooling experiences for their autistic girls in Lambeth.
thanks

I have a friend whose daughter goes to Fairley House but she lives by the river. The SN boards on the main mumsnet site are good for advice.

If you search ' local offer' on the Lambeth.gov.uk site you will find the services that support SEN - we've done that in Southwark. I know there are things going on and there may even be a specialist course for newly diagnosed parents of ASD kids - there certainly is in Southwark.

What problems are you having? Do you have a relationship with the school's SENCO? Do you have access to services like occupational therapy already or do you need referring (senco or GP can do this) OT will liaise with school and help with any sensory issues or adjustments that might need to happen - sometimes hey can give a nudge to schools that are dragging their feet engaging properly.

As I said there are very wise women on the SN boards here - they offer pretty targeted advice and there are lots of ASD parents.

Hello and thanks for posting - apologies for the delay in replying. TBH the relationship with the current school is beyond broken, they have behaved in an appalling, inhumane and desperate way, made my daughter's life an absolute misery and I can't wait to get her out of there, even to homeschool if need be. I did the course for newly diagnosed kids, it was great, unfortunately the school are still living in the dark ages and so convinced of their own rightness it's sickening. Hadn't heard of fairley I will check it out thanks

They are opening a new school specifically for children with autism in Kennington, I think in September, but not sure if it is secondary only. Any use to you?

thanks Mrs Shadenfreude
I saw news about that school. I'm not sure if it would be suitable for DD, she's incredibly bright and highly anxious, so needs somewhere small and calm. Most special schools I've been in are neither unfortunately.

Would you look schools out the borough ?

The schools on top of my head which fit your daughter's profile is... Fairley house, Blossom house school, Abingdon house, lingfield grange ...
