Doctors surgery: Trumpington Street Medical centre or Lensfield Road practice?

Hello all,

Recently moved to Cambridge and need to sign up with a GP surgery. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) of these two surgeries? Easy to get appointments / any doctors you do or don't rate? I am near both, so just need to pick one and sign up.

To be fair, looking at their patient satisfaction scores on the NHS services finder, they both have fantastic scores compared to my old GP in London, and I managed fine with them, so maybe they are both brilliant.

PS if it matters, I'm not a student

I was at Lensfield Road years ago and can't really remember but it certainly wasn't a bad surgery.

If they have equally good reviews on the NHS website, I'd go for the convenience factor. Is one closer? Will you ever want/need to park there? If so Lensfield Road will be easier.

Oh hi AnotherEmma . Thanks for replying! That's pretty much what I had decided- NHS scores are marginally better for Trumpington street but Lensfield Road is closer to me so will go for convenience. Thanks!

Im at trumpington street and i think they are fantastic. Receptionists are helpful and friendly, systems very efficient and they have some truly brilliant gps esp dr hughet and dr Lea Cox. We travel to them from the opposite end of town, it is worth the inconvenience!

Thanks romseyroo. Also a bit eek - I have just signed up with Lensfield Road. They seem pretty good too (as I said, compared to London surgeries, they all seem great). They offer early morning (before work) appointments! First time I have been offered that in my life.

But if I ever need to change, I will know where to go - so thank you!

Lensfield Road are or were a practice run with a Christian ethos (there used to be a statement about this on their website). This meant, amongst other things, that there were some GPs in the practice who would refuse to prescribe any contraception. Not sure if this is still the case.

Crikey, I had no idea about that. Was registered there from 2005 to 2009 and never realised. I was on the pill the whole time.

Maria1982 · 20/11/2016 18:19

Crikey! I had no idea either. I haven't seen any mention of it anywhere and had a brief look at their website, so hopefully that's no longer the case (seriously, that's so...
archaic in this day and age).
Thanks for posting though father

I think it may have changed when one of the GPs retired a couple of years ago - both him and the GP who I was told would refuse to prescribe me the pill are not on the website, and the statement on the website has gone, too. So ignore what I said - it's obviously changed, thank goodness.

No worrries, and thank goodness indeed.

I think there might be some doctors at other surgeries (including Trumpington St) who have religious views as well, but it doesn't say on the website. So can't hurt to ask when you register. They don't all refuse to prescribe contraception, but some refuse to refer for terminations or for infertility treatment.
