Hello All

Mumsnet are keen to update their Cheap Days Out info and would love Mumsnetters to contribute.

We want to hear about beautiful parks and open spaces, cheap (or free!) tourist attractions and family friendly museums near you.

Please do post your recommendations on the thread, we're really looking forward to hearing what you've got to say.

Thank you! Flowers

Stonebridge city farm and greens windmill both free and nice for a morning or afternoon with littlies, Wollaton hall is a great day out with the hall and lovely new playground.

Lakeside Arts is good for a day, or most of one, in good weather. The Arts Centre itself puts on a lot of children's theatre and creative workshops at fairly low prices (e.g. £8pp). There's also an art gallery, small museum and cafes. Outside there's a good children's playground, grassy area for picnics, lake-front full of water birds that like to be fed (bird seed is sold inside now). The walk around the lake is nice, with some stepping stones. In summer there are boats to hire. We took small daughter sledging down the slope behind last winter too (perfect for 3-5yos). Sometimes there are events outside too.

A little bit of a drive but it is easy to get to however I highly recommend Markeaton Park at Derby full stop it is on the A38 A52 Junction next to the McDonald's and it has many attractions. In the summer they have an outdoor paddling pool which is lovely. They also have a small boating lake and they also have a selection of other activities including Bouncy Castle Bouncy slide crazy golf pedalos and rowing boats. There's a small gauge railway train that runs throughout the park to outdoor play areas with great and well maintained play equipment along with vast Open Spaces full stop there is an enclosed area of what looks like an old stable block and that has businesses in there one of which is a paint a pot so there's plenty to do and it's free other than the parking to get into Markeaton Park however the activities obviously have a small cost. Great place for a picnic on a sunny day and enjoy time meeting other mums and dads or just spending time on your own.
