Know of a Chester playgroup good for older child?

Please can anyone recommend a playgroup in Chester that is good for 3 and 4 year olds? I am looking for the kind of group where parents stay with their child rather than a preschool or nursery. I was rather taken aback today to find that 3 and 4 year olds are not really welcome in our current playgroup even though it's billed as 0-5. In fact I was told older children would only be welcome if a younger sibling was there - not much good for only children! To be fair to them the space is small and the toys would not perhaps suit some older children. Thanks all.

hi, not in Chester, hopefully you get more replies.

Have you tried your local children's centre? Or try asking on local children's (selling) groups if you're on Facebook.

Good thoughts. I still have it in my head children's centre's are for very young children. Not sure why! Have not come across a selling group before so I will look into that. Thanks.

not sure, some of the events near me are for up to 5 :) It may vary.

There are selling groups (well there are near me anyway) for second hand toys and clothes. Can find good things sometimes. It's not really on topic but people might be helpful if you try.

Oh, I meant to say check the library too. That's OK!

Hi op. I think most toddler groups go up to school age.

Hi ChesterSS

Ooh, a local mumsnetter!!!

If you're on Facebook, it might be worth you joining New Mums of Chester and asking this there. Like mumsnet it's rather erroneously named there's lots of not so new mums and dads! Anyway, playgroup questions are asked frequently and always get loads of answers so you'd probably be able to find one near you. It's also fab for all sorts of questions, eg garage recommendations. It's a mini-mumsnet.

Where are you? If you're near dodleston, they've got a lovely playgroup on Thursday mornings in term term. When DD2 was nearly 4 she was one of the oldest, but still enjoyed it. Lots of toys, a craft activity and then singing with instruments. I don't know what the current mix is between babies, toddlers and preschoolers but you'd be made very welcome.

Also have you tired the toy library in hoole? I've only been once (it was good) but SIL used to go each week. There were loads of preschoolers there. I think that's a thursday morning too.

I stopped going to playgroups with mine around that age as they seemed to cater mostly for younger children. My kids loved A Star sports and Funky Town (free entry on Mondays) instead!
