Bonaly Primary School and area

You may remember my last post about us being a 2 mum family with a 4 yr old moving to Edinburgh next year.

After having a look at house prices etc we have decided to focus on Bonaly primary school as we think it looks like a great area and a school which offers a lot of things. Anyone have any experience of this school or the area itself. We're attracted by the proximity to the pentlands, city centre, our family in morningside, detached houses with gardens, close to my roots in Loanhead. Thanks!

I used to run an evening activity that was mostly children from Bonaly primary. I have very positive impressions. We nearly moved there last year but bidding on houses was nuts. Last year houses there were selling at more than 10% over the valuation price. We were priced out after failing in a couple of bids and are now happy in the Pentland primary catchment.

thanks for the reply - yes we're hoping they dont go up much more. We're planning to cash in on the Auckland property boom. We have also looked at pentland primary - what area of the catchment do you live in and how do you find it? Thanks!

We are near the school between it and comiston road. By the park if you look on a map. It's nice. Quiet. 25min walk into morningside.
Not nearly as much of a community as colinton but we have a better house than we could have got in Bonaly.

Sure.

But just have a look in espc for what you want and add 5-10% to the price (although it might be less post brexit).
There are a lot of bungalows and "chalet style" around here (so bungalows with extra bedrooms upstairs) we wanted bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs so that limited us. Also we needed a garage which limited us again.
Tbh it's not so much price as just pure availability. It's a smallish area with a very settled population.

Bonaly has a great rep. My friend lives round there and didn't get an out of catchment for Bonaly primary but her kids have thrived at Pentlands. Seems like a win-win area.
