Damp advice!

Hello, can anyone advice on having a damp assessment done on a property you're buying? There are some darker markings on a wall which we are slightly concerned about so I think we should get one done so looking for recommendations for reputable reliable company and any tips or information on whether getting a damp quote is free or if we'll have to pay a fortune. I've never bought before so any words of wisdom are welcome! Thank you Smile

It wasn't prior to purchase, but we had an independent damp survey done on our property by Bob Massey who I'd highly recommend - it cost a couple of hundred quid, but was absolutely worth the money.

It is possible to get free surveys from the damp-proofing firms (we had one of those as well) but IME they are in the business of finding "issues" so that they can provide you with a large quote for fixing them.
