Relocating to Newcastle

Hello, myself and my other half will be buying our first home in Newcastle and will be relocating from London, so we need some help locating the best areas. We are Looking for a 3/4 bedroom house of around 400k max. I've heard lots of good things about gosforth and jesmond but what about places like heaton which seem a lot more reasonable? I would also like a bit of a garden which many properties in jesmond seem to be lacking. I also don't want to be surrounded by student homes.Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Jesmond is very studenty though it depends where you live of course. Not sure of prices at the mo but the dene area might be quiter.

It's hard to find somewhere in the city with a) garden and b) off street parking. Tynemouth can be better for that - plus great school. (Kings) I know of a 4/5 bed house with garden and garage a stones throw from the beach for a bit less than that at the mo.

Gosforth is very nice and convenient, again hard to find off street parking plus garden but not impossible. Ilford road area is between Gosforth and jesmond, very nice.

Heaton is a kind of amalgamation of the lot! Different areas, probably get a lot more for your money. More down to earth.

I personally dislike jesmond due to the students - who irritate me greatly!

There's a few roads in fenham with huge houses, gardens, garages etc.

Reading your op again- Heaton is lovely but there are some parts that are a bit studenty, though I never felt like they were as 'full on' as in jesmond. Heaton has quite a lovely community.

Hi Kitty

I lived in Jesmond and Heaton when I lived in Newcastle as a student. Personally I wouldnt buy there now as a non student but thats just me. If you have kids the last thing you want/need is noisy students making noise in the street at all hours or pissing in your garden (sorry I have experienced this :-)

I relocated back here after years living in London. We decided to look a bit further out and so chose North Tyneside. Its much nicer in terms of being family oriented, better choice of housing etc. We live by the coast and its great, and we are only 20mins away from the city centre so the best of both worlds. Public transport is also great. I would recommend Tynemouth, Monkseaton, Whitley Bay, Benton, Killingworth. In terms of Newcastle, Gosforth is nice but parts are also very studenty.

Hope this helps
