This is a regular thread topic, I realise, but all its previous iterations seem a bit old so I thought I'd start my own. DH has just been offered a job in Cambridge and we're just starting to explore the housing market.
In an ideal world we'd like to be able to take as much advantage of Cambridge itself as possible but realistically will probably need to be a few miles out in order to afford a house. So I'm just wondering how plugged into the cultural buzz of town it's possible to be from the various villages, how frequent buses etc are, and how much there would be going on locally? We've seen nice houses advertised in Sawston and Bottisham (though I think that may be too far in the wrong direction as the job is to the south). Can anyone tell me anything about them?
We're currently living in a bit of a cultural black hole of a commuter town - nice village but not much going on, and I can't bear the thought of moving to somewhere as culturally vibrant as Cambridge and ending up living somewhere indistinguishable from where we are now!
