Poverest School

Hello, we will soon be moving to St Mary Cray, very close to the Poverest School. I know the school recently received 'Good' rating but we decided we shall send our son [he is 3 now] either to an outstanding school or private school. I am really not sure what to do now, please help! Does anyone here send their kids to Poverest? What alternatives do I have? Thanks, Arpita

Don't go by Ofsted alone. It is a rather narrow view to decide outstanding or private. Crofton is a highly sought after school but doesn't have the outstanding rating. Have you visited the school? St Mary Cray has a strong community so your DS would stand out if he went private. If you are moving anyway can you consider a different location closer to a school you do like?

Hi PettswoodMum, thanks for that. The thing is we always thought of going for this pvt school option and hence have narrowed down on the house [under offer]. The school is minutes away from Poverest school and I spoke to a mum there who said the school was very school. But I want to be sure. It is very helpful to know about the strong community factor. Will keep this in mind :)

I wouldn't ever narrow my search to outstanding schools.
A) because the narrow selection of the inspector may not be what you're looking for and
B) because who is telling you that school that was outstanding a few years ago will still be so when your DS is in say Y6
I also would not live in an area like St Mary's Cray and go private. Well, ideally. Obviously, if you have to then you just have to do what is best for you. I grew up in a mining valley with a very close and not highly educated community. I went to private school and definitely stood up A) amongst the community and B) in the school where none of the kids would ever have stepped into such an area and had strange misconceptions about it.
Sorry to give you these news but it was a very important fact for me and I thought I better share it.
Good luck with the house and the school.
