What's Westbury like to live?

We've been looking at houses in the Frome / Westbury area. I love Frome (as most people do, I guess), but we're rapidly getting priced out of the market there.

Westbury seems really reasonably priced and we've seen a lovely house there, but I'm a bit concerned that there isn't much going on.

Can anyone who lives there (or has lived there) tell me what's it's like? We're looking round the Frome-side of Westbury at the moment.

Thank you in advance!

P.s. Any other places round that area anyone can recommend?

By the way, we have an 18 month old daughter and I'm not currently working, so I'm kind of looking at it from that perspective!

Don't know if it is too late for you to see this - hope not. I worked in Frome for a few years and it is a very pretty town but I found there was a hidden undercurrent of nastiness. (I work in retail and we had quite a few instances of fairly serious trouble, including a fight between customers involving knives on the premises.) I have got friends who have moved from Frome to Warminster and Trowbridge recently who both prefer it. I work for the same company in Trowbridge now and we have markedly fewer unpleasant customers here. I would say there isn't that much to do in Westbury with little ones.

Have you considered Trowbridge? (It hasn't got a brilliant reputation but IMO, its reputation reflects what it was like 15 years ago, not now) and there is lots more for young families there.

Thanks so much for replying. It's definitely not too late. I think we've ruled out Westbury (we thought it seemed a bit limited for stuff to do), but have now included Warminster in the search. I'm glad to hear your friends like it there. I must admit I haven't really considered Trowbridge yet, but I might well have a look. It's great to hear your experiences. Thank you.
