Places to live in Liverpool?!

Me, husband, 21 month old and bump are moving to Liverpool in Jan.

Have no idea on nice places to live with a family?

Has to be easy to get into the centre as neither of us drive?

Do you know any of the areas at all or have any family links?
North and south Liverpool are definitely polar opposites and the East is a mixed bag... All have direct links into the city though and public transport is really reliable.
So did you have an idea of the type of place you wanted to live in, local amenities etc?
