A new secondary school for Luton

ChilternAcademy · 02/12/2015 10:21

By September 2018 Luton will need approximately 180 more secondary school places than will be available.

The Chiltern Learning Trust has applied to open a new secondary school called the Chiltern Academy which will be a mixed-sex, 11-16 secondary Free School for 1200 students. The admission number for each year would be 240.

Although being a ‘Free School’, the Chiltern Academy will follow the National Curriculum with specialist areas of Sport, Engineering and Business. The new school is likely to be built on the land opposite the Gipsy Lane retail park.

The Trust currently runs Luton’s two highest performing secondary schools, Denbigh High School and Challney High School for Boys, and it is our intention to provide the Town with another high performing secondary school. Our two existing schools are rated as Outstanding and are ranked in 1st and 2nd place in the Luton GCSE results.

WE ARE SEEKING PEOPLES VIEWS ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW SCHOOL. HAVE YOUR SAY HERE ON Mumsnet.
