Secondary schools

Hi All, I hope you can help us. We need local advice on the best secondary schools in the Cambridge area. When I say best I really mean from an academic point of view. I can look at the league tables but am interested in locals opinions too. Have an academically gifted child in year 8 and am moving to the area.

Not much to add from me but I live between the two schools. We are catchment for LVC but have looked round both for DS1. We preferred LVC and have heard great things about it from families who have kids there at the moment. But also heard lots of good things about Sawston too. As I think someone has said - the schools round here all seem to be good so I'm not sure you can go wrong really!
At least I hope so...

Another vote for Sawston VC. I have two academic boys there in Yr 8 and 9 and they're both very well catered for. Maths and Sciences are taught particularly well. The senior management is very strong, with Ms Macehiter and Mr Hunt particularly good.

And another for Sawston. I have an academically bright year 10 doing very well. But it isn't all about the academic stuff - it's the extra curricular choices they get too. I agree though that we are very fortunate in Cambridgeshire in that there are a lot of good schools. We have friends in Suffolk who have felt forced to use the independent sector and when you compare GCSE performance of their secondaries to ours you can see why.
