A beach for the kids in Romsey?

Here is something I thought might be of interest to families in and around Romsey.
As you may know, in Romsey we have a large area of water known as Fishlake Meadows which is soon to come into public ownership. It will be used as a Nature Reserve and, if enough interest is shown, for recreational purposes as well. So far, discussion in the Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC who will be the owners) has only been concerned with the Nature Reserve aspect but the situation is changing now that walkers, anglers and sculling groups have shown a serious interest and TVBC have opened a new webpage recording post on these additional interests.

A good example of what can be done is at Fleet Pond (Fleet in Hampshire) which is the same area as Fishlake Meadows and is used for all the purposes above but it also has imported some sand to make a small beach for children to play on. It is extremely popular in the summer. The Fleet Pond Society has an excellent website where you can see what they have achieved.

There is no reason why we shouldn't do the same with Fishlake Meadows but people have to make their voices heard. If you think this is a good idea please say so to David Tasker in TVBC:
[email protected]
? and tell him what you would like to see it used for.
Just a word about why I have written to you. I have been retired for 25
years and my 80th birthday is but a distant memory so I have no personal
reason for wanting to promote the Meadows but I have a very strong interest in making Romsey a better place and I believe this is an opportunity which ought not to be missed.
Please write to TVBC to make it happen.
