Asking for a friend who would like to apply to an Edinburgh private school preferably George watsons for secondary school entry in 2018.
Does anyone have any notes on it and also what does the secondary exam entail for entry?
Is entry better in p7 or s1?
All opinions welcome

Can' help you directly on your questions, but what I can add is that there is sizeable intake to GWC (and other private schools in Edi) in P7 from state schools in Edinburgh. ie, kids attend a local primary but transition to private for secondary. They go in at P7 so that they're already used to the school when they make the move internally from junior to senior school.

At GWC, this intake must be approx 20-25 pupils as they add an extra class in at P7 to accommodate them, mixed with existing students.

So as far as getting used to the school and making friends, perhaps P7 is better. Then all of them are at the same level going up to senior school.

My niece started in p6 and my nephew in P7, it has given them an easier transition for moving to high school and the time tabling. But they have found the other pupils to be welcoming and kind.

DS joined Watson's in P7. There is a new class set in P7 for all of the the new entrants, but according to DS, they were mixed with existing students for Maths, Art and Games. P7 was a great entry point for DS because they have have a year to settle in the smaller environment of the Upper Primary, but they do have some activities in the Senior school (e.g. Physics was held in the Senior school labs and they eat their lunch in the Senior School).

He loves Watson's and hopefully DD will be joining him there next year.
