Nurseries in South Cambridge - Butterfly Day Nursery?

Hello everyone,
I'm new to mumsnet (having first baby next week!) but have found it a great source of info and advice throughout pregnancy, so looking forward to being a more regular contributor once baby arrives.
I know it's very early, but I've been advised nurseries get booked up early, so I've started looking for Sept 2016 (when baby will be almost one). So far I have only visited Butterfly Day Nursery - which is the most convenient location wise, but am due to visit ACE Day Nursery and some others. First impressions of Butterfly were that it looked nice for 1-2 year olds - staff seemed friendly and the children were very comfortable and tactile with them, which I liked. It was quite small, which i felt would be good for babies and little toddlers - more homely - but maybe too small for bigger children?
Does anyone have experience of this or other nurseries in the area? We are still keeping an open mind about childcare, and would also consider a nanny or childminder (depending on what our boy is like and what we feel would most suit him) so at the moment I'm just looking for any advice people have. Would be really grateful!
Thanks all x

Hi Ali,

Afraid I don't know anything about those nurseries, but a friend had her two boys in Anglia Ruskin's nursery and was very happy with it (though this was several years ago). I don't think you have to be an ARU employee to apply there, but no idea what the waiting list is like. I believe it's on East Road, so it depends if that location works for you or not.

Lots of luck--we're on one waiting list for Sept 16 and applying for another nursery as soon as the baby's born. Unbelievable how early you have to consider these things!

I am currently looking at nurseries for my Lo too. She is currently 21months.

I had a look at Butterfly, and felt the baby room was very clean. But I felt it was bit small, maybe for a 1yr old baby it would have a homely feel.
However , my Lo started walkin whn she was 1. And by 18months, she is a very active child.

I felt the butterfly baby room would be too small for my Lo. They had spaces for us to join in nov (whn Lo would b 22months) but the manager seemed to want her to join the baby room first, even thou she was approaching the age to join the toddler room.

Ace is also a small nursery. We are currently on the waiting list , but have no idea how long the wait would be for! So it's probably a good idea for u to get on ther ASAP!

You could also take a look at Cambridge Day nursery, which is only about 5mins drive from Butterfly nursery.

Has sums you mean north Cambridge not south? My boys are at Cambridge day nursery. It's very good, lovely staff and great outdoor area. We've been there almost five years and generally very happy with them.

Chestnut nursery is also good and friends with children there like it.
