Sorry for double posting - I put this in _chat, but was wondering if anyone in the Nottingham local site would have advice on this?

DH has just been offered a job in Nottingham (he applied for the role where we live, so this is a bit of a surprise!)

We have a long list of questions - any general advice would be appreciated!

Where would you recommend living? We would hope to buy a 3 bedroom house in the 200-220k region

Any school recommendations (currently year 1, year 3) - any advice about Catholic schools?

Is it possible to live within walking / cycling distance of Nottingham city centre?

Or does anyone commute from Lincoln (we have family there)

Thanks!

Hello Smile

Well that all seems quite doable.

Start with schools, as that will determine your house-search area. Catholic schools are generally good e.g. Beckett has a good reputation for secondary and I think the primaries are mostly good.

Otherwise, look at West Bridgford - all the schools are good but oversubscribed. This is reflected in house prices. A three-bed is probably more like £225-75 but you'd probably find something in your range, just might have a small third bedroom and garden.

WB is walkable / easily cycleable into town.

Other good residential areas a little further out and slightly less expensive include Wollaton, Beeston and Mapperley. Schools ok to good - you'd need to check catchments. You can cycle along the river and canals to Beeston. Lovely parks out that way.

A commute from Lincoln would take an hour by car or train, probably more door to door.

What else do you need to know?
