Altrincham Grammar School for Girls

Hi, I am looking for some information from parents/previous pupils about Altrincham Grammar School for girls.
I know all the official info about results, entrance exams etc... anyone have any idea about how much pressure the girls are under?
Daughter is bright, but I am concerned about too much pressure too young.
Also, I am aware that some schools have end of year asessments, and if you do not make the grade at a certain stage, then you cannot progress to the next year. This would really bother me, as it piles on the pressure.
I guess I want a well balanced school...good results, but also for daughter to be happy too.

DD is in Y8 at Alti Girls and a close friend is in Y11. Both love the school. I can honestly say that there isn't undue pressure. The opposite actually. I think DDcould do with a bit more pressure! They seem to get less homework than Alti Boys and actually Wellington High.

Our babysitter / neighbour is an Alty Girls girl and we know of several girls through family friends who go. I think there is pressure, but not necessarily more than at other schools locally. I think it depends too on how bright your DD is. If she's top set / top of the class, generally quite confident then its fine - if she only just passes, and is a little shy maybe, she might feel the pressure more.

There is definitely a requirement to meet a standard to progress from GCSE to A Level (off the top of my head the girls need 4 As or A*s and there is a standard to achieve for the subjects you want to study at A level - I only know that because our babysitter's best friend had to "appeal" to go to 6th form when she didn't get good enough results). Maybe give them a ring to ask.
