Helping my partner open a Playgroup in Tooting or nearby

Hi all,

My partner is trying to start a playgroup within the Tooting area (or nearby). She has worked in the industry for many years and is ready to venture out on her own. The hardest place to find is a venue.

Is it possible to get any tips on trying to find a venue?
And also, what do parents want from a nursery?

(also I work in advertising, so can help with website and general moral support)

And other advice would be helpful :-)

Do you mean a playgroup or a nursery?

Thanks for clarifying Greydove, a playgroup (apologies)...

Church halls are the usual places. Also worth trying any of the big pubs as they may have function rooms and are usually glad to sell coffees etc in the morning

Greydove is right about the venue but other things to consider are the days she wants to open, people are creatures of habit, Mondays and Wednesday are light on PGs in Tooting at the moment so that would be a starting point, i cant honestly beleive there will be any money to be made in a PG though, lets hope it is a laboir of love and Tooting gets a wonderful new PG, it is long over due

Thanks for the suggestion Greydove, pubs are not something we previously considered. We have spoke to a few places in the area - church halls, etc.

3kidsandacat (thanks for your comment), she was thinking Monday to Friday, with multiple sessions per day. I believe she wants to provide activities like dance, etc.

My partner absolutely loves children and the industry but wants to be able to sustain a basic wage until she can open a nursery. This is the precursor to that. I also want her to improve the standards of the industry through her good example, as from what I hear it's needed.
