Hello,

We are a local group collecting clothes, shoes, baby slings, camping items etc for refugees in Kos and Lesvos. We are based in the Kings Heath / Moseley area and have a contact shipping items out.

If you have any items you'd like to donate but don't know what to do with please feel free to get in touch, we are organising drop off points at the moment. Please see image attached for items needed.

If there are any other local groups out there doing this, it would be great to hear from you and maybe we can all coordinate?

Thanks

Thanks so much thesocialkh. No parent could have been left unmoved by the pathetic pictures of little Aylan.

It would be helpful to know how much support there is, so feel free to leave messages below.

I for one am going to start to gather some things from this list with my children now.

Rowheath Pavilion in Bournville has just announced they are also doing a collection. They are specifically asking for men's clothing, tents, shoes etc.

If anyone knows of any other collection points in Birmingham feel free to add below.

We've heard that some cubs and brownies have been asked to bring in donations this week, and here's a snapshot of the items they need most.

Mumsnet HQ has been bombarded with messages from ordinary people who want to help.

This is the results of a survey on the site: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_campaigns/a2460948-Refugee-crisis-please-take-our-survey-to-let-us-know-where-you-stand?msgid=56475081#56475081

Here's a link to the march organised in London on September 12:

UPDATE: We have now met and have a drop off point for aid for Calais: Baptist Church on Kings Heath High Street opposite Asda.

Here is a bit more info from the meeting copied directly from our fb page
www.facebook.com/groups/1709881505906438/?fref=ts

We've 3 main geographical areas we want to target - Calais, Syria and Kos & Lesbos. We are also looking into lesser known areas that desperately need help too.

We are discussing more long term ideas for collections, but most immediately are the collections at the Baptist Church in Kings Heath. This collection is bound for:

  1. Amirah Foundation (City Centre /JQ) for 16th September for Calais.
  2. Ummah Welfare Trust (with drop off points in Sparkhill and
Aston) for on 21st September.

For Kos and Lesbos - we don't have a charity who is collecting for this in the Birmingham area yet but will keep looking into this.

Kate and Amy from this group are organising The Big Sew event. So if you fancy getting your stitch on, more details to follow very soon.

CAN YOU HELP WITH SORTING?
We need helpers on Sunday 13th & Sunday 20th between 12-230pm.
If you can come, leave a post on here. If you can offer a vehicle on any of these days, let us know too.
Thanks everyone!

Thanks very much for the update, thesocailskh - we've liked and shared and will be dropping off our donations this week.
