Hi everyone!my husband and I are looking to move out of SW London as we are 8 months pregnant and want to be closer to family in Bedfordshire. We visited hitchin and thought it was lovely-we want a nice market town with a bit of buzz and social!does anyone have any advice on moving to the area-I fear we are priced out of harpendon and St. Albans.we both love the outdoors, sports, meeting with friends etc.thanks in advance!

Well, you'll be in good company. Hitchin is full of ex-Londoners now. Prices are getting extremely high, but maybe not as much as St. Albans. If you like the outdoors then you might also want to consider one of the surrounding villages such as Ickleford, Fairfield Park, Offley etc as they're only a few mins drive from Hitchin yet feel nice and rural.

Hitchin is indeed full of ex-Londoners!

We moved here nearly four years ago from south London and absolutely love it, best decision we've made. It's got its own restaurants and bars and a nice enough town centre to wander around at the weekend if you want to. Plenty of walks, parks, places to visit nearby. And a very good train link to London for work and socialising.

Plus, as it's full of ex-Londoners I found so many mums on maternity leave were looking to actively make new friends, so haven't had a problem meeting people and making friends.

We moved here 8 years ago from London and it's definitely seen a lot of other people do the same! Good local community with plenty of events if you want to get involved. Nice restaurants a plenty and definitely lots to do with young children although I believe pressure on schools is increasing as you'd expect. We love it here.

How long does it take to get into London for work? We've just moved to Hertford (only renting) and the commute is terrible! Hitchin monthly travel is £450 - it does look lovely (TV drama Doctor Foster is set there..) but I'm not moving anywhere again without testing the commute to work first! (Tottenham Court Road way) Any advice appreciated, thanks x
