Balsham.... Am I missing something?

DH and I are relocating to Cambridge and have been spying out local areas.

One of the S Cam villages we liked was Balsham.
Ok, so it doesn't have a station and is on the wrong side for the M11, but it has lots going for it.... Doesn't it?

2 pubs, a school (improving) butchers, shop etc and short drive to supermarket/leisure facilities, bakery, cafe in Linton and Haverhill.

Looking at house prices your money does go a lot further here and we're starting to wonder why?

Have we missed something?
Is there a glaringly obvious down side that we have overlooked?

Balsham is nice.
Public transport isn't great - they're aren't many buses.

South Cambs is cheaper than Cambridge. Balsham is quite an upmarket village. As already stated, public transport isn't great - better in Linton and Abington. School has had a recent poor OFSTED after years of good reports. I live nearby and don't know of any reason why one wouldn't want to live there.

It's a bit in the middle of nowhere. That's why it's cheaper imo

Yes it's miles out and doesn't have the greatest access.

I haven't spent any time there, so I can't comment. But in terms of commuting, I'd check out the traffic levels on google maps and your estimated journey times during rush hour to get a sense of what that will be like. But if you like the area and it meets your needs, I see no reason not to consider moving there.

Lived there as a young teenager and loved it (mainly because I went riding a lot!). But agree, public transport not the best. It is, however, one of my would love to retire to villages!
