Interracial families with mixed raced children

Hi there, I'll be moving from Tunbridge Wells to Harrogate with my husband who is white, and 2 year old who is mixed raced. I am british born with parents from the Caribbean (Aruba and Jamaica). It would be great to connect with parents from all nationalities actually, but particularly those who have mixed raced children. I would love to know what the quality of life is like there for bi-racial families and especially the children as I'm a little worried about leaving Tunbridge Wells where it is not uncommon to see culturally mixed families and where we have friends from many different nationalities. I Would love to hear if people are as open minded in Harrogate?

Best of luck with the move; I am sure you will very much enjoy life in Harrogate. I am polynesian, DH is white and we have been living with our biracial children in a less-racially-diverse-area-than-Harrogate for nearly 12 years now. Aside from having THE BEST sense of humour in the modern world, people from North Yorkshire are generally interested in people from different nationalities as long as they are not from Lancashire jks.
I'm sure you will be able to easily connect with different nationalities via whichever child-minder / nursery / pre-school you choose for DC. There are very diverse communities around HG, Leeds, Bradford etc. I have no doubt that you will find people HG not only open-minded, but genuinely kind and caring.
My DCs are much older than yours (youngest is 9) but please do feel free to connect if you need a friendly cyber-face.

love it!. After all you have said above, including the Yorkshire people having the best sense of humour and even more importantly, being kind and caring, (which struck a cord as I'm original from London, not the most kind and caring place at times), I'm now much more
looking forward to the move, so thank you. Though my hubby has to first get the job!, his second interview is in two weeks. But regardless of what happens with that we'll still be making plans to move up anyway. Two weeks ago we were there, village hopping and taking in the beautiful Yorkshire scenery, you guys certainly are spoilt!, I mean Kent is lovely, but it's no match for the Yorkshire Dales!. Nessa, your children must be absolutely gorgeous!?, what a lovely mix of heritages. I don't know much about the Polynesian culture, but now I certainly will find out! I bet the food is good!! I'm intrigued to find out more. It would absolutely be great to connect, let's do it!.... er....how do we do it?, I'm a novice to socialising on-line, I'm a bit of an analogue girl, so let me know. Also where do you live in Yorkshire out of interest?

Oh! and by the way, I also have a 19 year old daughter who ( plans on staying in London when we move, can't quite persuade her to move up, yet!), and she is a quarter white, a quarter Sri Lankan, a quarter Aruban and a quarter Jamaican. Wonderful huh! She's a very lucky girl!..

Hi, saw your post on here and thought I would reply as I've just moved to Harrogate with my mixed race son. Would love a meet up if you have time and want to meet more people, my son is 4 (5 in December) and half Jamaican. I'm loving Harrogate so far! Would be interesting to find out about your experience of Harrogate. I moved from Lincolnshire but lived in London before that but find Yorkshire people much friendlier than the other bunch! 😂

Hi Tonia, it’s really great to see your message here! I didn’t receive notification, unless I missed it somehow, but anyway it’s glad to find you now. I hope that you’re still loving Harrogate?. I totally agree that the Yorkshire people are far more friendlier, and yes, it would be great to meet up, let’s try and arrange that. We actually pulled out of the house we were buying in Harrogate and moved to the West Yorkshire countryside and are loving our semi rural lifestyle, but relish the opportunity to visit Harrogate often, which we do. And funny enough it was only yesterday that we decided that my husband shouldn’t go for a possible job offer at Lincoln University, as we love it here, but we really enjoyed going to Lincoln and especially Nottinghamshire’s Vale of Belvoire and other areas.
