Ratho - what are your thoughts

Hi everyone,

We have sold our house and move out in 4 weeks with no new house secured how did I find my self in this position with a 3 year old!

We are looking to move into the Currie or Balerno high catchment area and Ratho falls in the Balerno catchment. There are some lovely houses at a much more reasonable price than more central. We know the transport links are awful but we both have a car what im really looking for is some personal experience of the area good and bad. Also what you move there with kids? I ask this question simply to get a different perspective what kind of things would you consider.

Im a city dweller always have been so the prospect of moving out the city scares me but also the peaceful aspect of it excites me.

Any help, comments, things to consider would be much appreciated!

It depends on how old your kids are. Once they get to High school, how will they get there? How will they get to see their friends from school at the weekends and holidays, what about going to town for cinema, shopping, football etc etc. just bear in mind that you are setting yourself up to be a non stop taxi service or risk social disaster ( according to teenagers benchmarking !). There is a reason you get more house for your money....

I like Ratho. Lots of countryside. Would definately have it on my list

Live in corstorphine, lovely area and Craigmount High good school ! Wouldnt consider Ratho at all soz ??

Had to look into what areas of Edinburgh have the most pest complaints recently for work (the council produces maps showing hotspots). Remember joking about Ratho living up to its name, due to high incidence of rat complaints there.

I want to know if there is anti social behaviour, house break ins or gang related problems in the neighbourhood, looking at Hillwood addresses, looking for honesty.

Looking to move to Ratho I would like to know if there is anti social behaviour or high crime in the neighbourhood. Looking mainly at Hillwood.
