Moving to centre of Chester

Hi everyone!

Thinking about moving to central Chester (e.g. some lovely flats off the Rows) and need your advice please!

We currently live in the middle of London and love that 'urban feel' (e.g. access to coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, no daily car use) so that's why we want to stay central...but London is getting a little bit too urban (and expensive) so we're heading out!

However, I'm hearing a few scary stories about drunken antics in the city centre e.g. on race days. The flats we like are on a quiet street with no pubs/restaurants/bars so we think we're going to be ok but you never know. We're going to stay up late to research the area on a Saturday night but was keen to find out what you thought too. I don't want to be kept awake with pumping night club music / noisy drunken revellers on their way home / etc. Chester didn't seem like that sort of place but you can't tell on short visits.

What do you think? Thanks in advance!

Central Chester is busy and noisy on race days, but there aren't that many in the year. Also depends on where the flats you are looking at are, the rows spread out in several directions and you might be in a section right away from the pubs and clubs that is quieter.

Have you looked at Hoole? Same urban villagey feel but much quieter at night than the city centre.

Hi there and thanks for posting on the Cheshire pages. It's not a busy as London obviously but still pretty lively for a city! Right in the centre is busy and lively at night, but it all depends on what you are used too and will put up with. I think you best best is to hang about one Saturday night and see what you think!
